From draft to weaving

It all begins when you contact me. When we speak, and you tell me the stories, and you show me the pieces you want me to transform. Your stories guide me, as well as the pieces themselves.

The size, texture, fiber content and materials of the pieces you give me, all guide the design process. I start small. By creating a scaled down version, I can play with colors and textures to come up with a design that will be pleasing.

For the mock ups, I work with squared draft paper, scissors, and a glue stick. So when I say rough, I mean rough! These are not woven miniatures, just a small sampling to guide me on how I think colors and textures will best flow from one to another.

From there, once the mock up is approved, I start deconstructing. Once your pieces are deconstructed and upcycled into weavable materials, it is time to start weaving.

As I work on your Memory Weaving, I might divert slightly from the mock-up. It’s an intuitive process guided by how much material your pieces produce, and how they behave when woven. The shape and general color movement of the piece remains the same.

Once I start weaving, your memories slowly come to life in tangible form. By time I am done with it, you will have a stunning work of art that is both a conversation piece and a keepsake to treasure.
